WV Winter Wonderland

Welcome to the Snow Drift

This past weekend brought our first dusting of snow and some lingering cooler temperatures. The shift from fall to winter never fails to serve as a reminder of how versatile the beauty of WV truly is throughout all four seasons. While many may not think of winter as their ideal vacation season, those who stay in our Snow Drift Cabin would disagree. Winter is actually a wonderful time to get away or stay-cay and enjoy West Virginia! Why?

Skiing! We are just minutes away from Winterplace Ski Resort. Winterplace is the perfect place for skiers of all ages and abilities. With a base elevation of almost 3,000 feet, nearly 100 acres and 27 slopes there is something for everyone. They even offer a SkiWee program, Ski Lessons, Rentals and have the largest snow tubing park in West Virginia.

Foooood! Nothing warms the heart more. Yes, Winterplace has food too. But, make sure you check out some other local favorites on your next trip. Whether you are craving fine Italian Dining (Pasquale Miras), or an exquisite meal of mouth watering sea food or the perfect steak and sides (The Char), or a unique experience of a food truck gone brick and mortar now located in a converted service station with roof top dining and the best taco selection in town (Poncho & Lefty’s), or a brick oven pizza accompanied by on site craft brewed beverages (Weathered Ground Brewery) we promise you will not be hungry or disappointed in the variety of dining or delivery options.

Fun! Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine is a must have on your “to do” list, even in the winter. During the winter special reservations are required for mine tours but the Appalachian Coal Christmas display is beautiful for even just a drive by. This year they will also have an Ice Skating Rink from November 20th – December 5th. Another local attraction is The Chocolate Moose/Little Brick House which has been recognized by USA Today for having one of America’s 30 most interesting miniature golf courses and hosts an indoor climbing gym. Turkey Day 5k, Christmas Parades, Hands on Arts and Craft classes at Tamarack (and ohhh myyy the shopping is wonderful), full moon bike rides on the nearby McManus Trail, and so much more.

When you’re finished skiing, fooding or funning the Snow Drift is the perfect place to relax and unwind. This 925 square foot, 2 Bedroom cabin sleeps 4-6 guests, features a hot tub, pellet stove, full kitchen, washer/dryer, central heat and air, free Wi-Fi and Cable TV. Oh, and even your pet is welcome!
